Most of us love the idea of traveling, but don’t necessarily have the means or the time to make it work. Traveling is something I feel like I must do, but at this point in my life it isn’t financially feasible. Luckily, my boyfriend is brilliant and has introduced me to the beauty of Day Trips. Normally when I think of the type of traveling I want to do, I think of traveling internationally, but that mindset keeps me from traveling to such amazing gems that are in my own backyard. For example, he took me to a local museum last weekend. After living in New York City, I was extremely skeptical of what Jacksonville’s museum had to offer, but it turned out to be a great experience. I took this photo in their impressionist exhibition. They wanted us to be able to see how white light has a variety of colors in it.
The museum also had a collection of beautiful gardens.
Needless to say, I was shocked. It made me realize how sometimes the very beauty we seek has been there the whole time. This past Saturday, we took a day trip to Savannah. I fell in love with it, five minutes after we had arrived. The historic downtown area stole my heart.
SCAD was hosting an International Festival. While we walked around I was stopped and photographed by an AMAZING fashion blogger named Mangue Banzima. Here is the link to his fashion blog www.quistyle.com . Definitely check it out! Here is the photo of me that made it on to his blog. He and his family were so nice! It was great to connect randomly with a fellow blogger.
After lunch David and I went to the Social Club, for a drink and then headed home.
I’ve written all this to say, stop and look around you. Take a day trip and explore. It might not be the idea of traveling you had in mind, but you never know who you might meet or what beauty you might find:)
Happy Monday!
really nice and inspiring
Thank you!!
your welcome hope you enjoy my blogs too
Oh, isn’t Savannah just magic? I was lucky enough to live there for six years. LOVE SCAD, too. Great post…made me think of “The Artist’s Way”….ever seen that book?
I don’t think so, what’s it about? I love reading so I’ll check it out!
The Artist’s Way could just as easily be titled ‘the Art of Getting Unstuck’. It focuses on unlocking the creative power we have, rather than lamenting what we don’t. Really cool book. Great post!
I haven’t read it in years, but I remember that when I did, I was taking little artsy/adventure days to myself where I just spent time seeing all the stuff around me that was beautiful and fun. It IS a book about getting unstuck, unblocked, whatever you want to call it. She explained way better than me. Great book!
I know what you mean about wanting to travel internationally and forgetting about what is in your backyard! My fiance and I wanted to take a backpacking trip through Canada for our honeymoon, but with money and lots of life changes happening we don’t think we’ll be able to go somewhere for a whole week. I think instead we’re going to take a bike tour on a long weekend!
A bike tour sounds amazing!!
bornattwentyfive. This is brilliant. Cannot believe there is so much beuty around us while we spend years saving to go and look for it. The pictures are gorgeous and I visited your new friend’s website. Fantastic pictures of the SCAD festival. Thanks for sharing this!
You are welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! His website is awesome!
You are so right about traveling. I used to travel so much when I was younger and now it’s just not in the cards. I know there are tons of places near me that I could be exploring and your post reminded me of this!
Thanks! I just checked out your latest nail polish and design. Cute!
That’s great! Sounds like a fun experience. I have had the opportunity to live in a few places in the US and I am just finding out now that I need to enjoy what surrounds me. I wish I would have traveled more in the towns I had previously lived in.
Me too. I’m going to try and get out as much as possible.
wonderful photos!
Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE your photos! I agree about travelling as much as you can no matter where it is. My family used to tease me because I had this little old Nissan Sentra when my kids were little and I would drive them EVERYWHERE…New England is beautiful and there is so much to see just in Massachusetts. we hardly ever stayed a weekend at home. We’ve done BIG roadtrips as well and still do but now I don’t have to do all the driving 🙂
Thank you! New England is gorgeous! I grew up outside of Philadelphia and my parents took us on a road trip to Mass. when I was little. I regret not making it a point to visit when I was living in NYC this past year. That’s great you’re instilling in your kids the desire to travel and see the world!
Awesome trip! 🙂
Thanks!
Wow, very inspiring! Thank you for sharing. Now I need to take some day trips of my own!
Thanks! If you take one let me know! I’m always looking for new places to visit.
What a good boyfriend you have! And you look awesome too! Great post!
~ Gina
Thanks so much! He is great! Have you heard from anything from the doctor yet? I hope you’re feeling better!
Some of my favorite trips have been day trips – far enough away that you get a different flavor but close enough that you get to sleep in your own bed. Savanah sounds gorgeous – hope I can make it there someday!! Thanks for your visit to One January Day!
Exactly!!! And I like your blog, so I’m sure I’ll be back by:)
Living close to Boston, there’s lots of great day trips to take around here, and thanks for the reminder! Nice pix,and looks like you had a good time! 🙂
Thanks! Boston is great! I regret not visiting it more when i was living in NYC.
Love this!! You can get free travel guides from different states and city of commerce websites. It helps to plan short trips. This is something I plan on starting soon too! Thank you so much for sharing!
I didn’t know that! That is awesome! Let me know when you take your first trip:)
Beautiful!
cool pics, classic message….ima try look around b4 I get onto that plane…
I’m sure you’ll find something! Let me know when you do!
will do
Great post! Thanks for the reminder to appreciate what’s right in front of us…
Just wanted to stop by and see what your blog is about, and I’m so glad I did! This post really resonated with me. Beautiful photos and true words, I had some friends visiting last month, and seeing the city through their eyes reminded me how much i miss the cool little details on a daily basis. Thanks for the reminder that there’s always something to explore in your own backyard!
Awww I’m so glad you checked out my blog! Let me know what you discover on your next day trip:)
This is so inspiring, really makes you think to appreciate what you have right in front of you.
Thanks! I saw from your about section that you go to school in Cambridge. I’m sure there is a ton to see there!
Yeah, It is such a lovely place to be living.
I always find new stuff to do. But reading your blog really put it all in to perspective of how lucky I am.
i’m a big fan of the day trip! i remember when holly and i went to this place http://www.hillwoodmuseum.org/ for one of her classes. after living in the dc area for sooo many years, it was an amazing discovery! just blew my mind. nice to see someone givin props to the daytrip 😉
Yes day trips are the best! I checked out the hillwood museum link you sent me and it looks epic! There’s a ton of awesome things to do in DC. That’s one thing I took for granted when I was living in nyc. I didn’t make the most of all the awesome things to do there. Or more like I did tons of awesome things but should have done a lot more while I was there. Do you make it into NYC much?
I love the way you look at the world. No wonder you didn’t want to push the shiny red button.
Hhaha Thank you! The red button was tempting though!
Inspiring article. It is easy to have hope and dreams and to keep imagining how our lives could be but it is far more empowering to actually do the best with what we have already got. I really like the idea that beauty is all around us and it is just up to us to open our eyes and look at it. Thanks for sharing.
Of course! I’m glad you enjoyed reading it!
thanks for you sweet comment on my blog. i need all of the encouragement i can get. this is a wonderful post! I actually work for a travel agency that sends people to see all of these fabulous places i can’t yet afford to go. your post was a nice reminder that you don’t have to go far to have an awesome vacation. it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. 🙂
I’m glad you liked my post. It’s so important to take in what’s around you! That’s cool you work for a travel agency! Hopefully they’ll give you a discount on some of those trips that way you can experience seeing the world! Until then I’m sure you have awesome places right by you to visit. If you take a day trip sometime soon let me know! I love hear about various adventures.
I really liked your blog. Something about revamping something is always excited! I can’t wait to see what you come up with:)
What a wonderful inspiring post, Danasia! There is beauty all around us – sometimes we just have to stop and take the time to look. 🙂
Amen to that Allison! It looks like you do a good bit of stopping and looking for beauty! Your pictures are beautiful!
Thank you for your kind words. You reminded me, though, that I need to look at my own back yard more often. It’s a given to find wonder and adventure when you travel, but it’s much more of a challenge to turn the routine into something new and exciting!
You are absolutely right about that!
Beautiful. I take mini vacations around my city (Austin) once a week. I call them Observation Days. I pick a different part of town, a different time of day, and I walk, listen, and otherwise observe. I found a park and sculpture garden one day – had no idea it was there in the Busy Mondays Through Fridays of Driving Through Places.
That is an awesome idea! By the way I hear Austin is an AMAZING city!!! Great music scene right?
Very lovely photos you have taken. Enjoy your week 🙂
Thanks so much! I hope you have a great week as well!
Love Savannah, love day trips! (just can’t do Savannah from NYC in a day). Great inspiring posts 🙂
Amen to that! I had to move to FL from NYC to do that.
Keep reminding us all these wonderful trips…Thank you for posting this
Absolutely!
Love this and it is so true!! x
Aww thanks!
Written with an honesty many of us are ashamed to admit.Sometimes what is around us is most inspiring. I am sure you’ll soon be trekking the world. =)
Thanks so much Trini! Glad you enjoyed the post:)
